What happened

BlackRock Financial Management and BlackRock Japan signed an MOU with SBI Holdings and Startale Group to explore connecting tokenized money market funds (MMFs) with SBI's Japanese yen-denominated stablecoin JPYSC. The collaboration will examine technology/infrastructure, business/distribution, and regulation/market development. JPYSC launched in June 2026 as Japan's first trust bank-backed yen stablecoin (issued by SBI Shinsei Trust Bank, distributed by SBI VC Trade). BlackRock's BUIDL tokenized fund is already one of the largest at ~$2.17B.

Why it matters for us

What to do next

Rec 1: Monitor JPYSC adoption and any public APIs/integration details as they emerge; if SBI/Startale publish developer docs or x402-style payment endpoints, re-evaluate for revenue potential.
Rec 2: Track Japan's stablecoin regulatory developments (Payment Services Act implementation) as they may inform compliance considerations for cross-border agent payments.
